Labor Day Weekend Wistfulness

Say goodbye to Summer

Today is the holiday that has us all mourning the end of Summer, the end of seersucker season and the shortening of days.  Although, as we lay by the pool or lake or ocean today, we look ahead to Fall.  To pumpkin spiced everything, to cute sweaters and knee high boots, to snuggling on the front porch swing as the air gets that crisp bite in it.

As I sit here and sip my first Pumpkin Spiced Latte of the season - I know it's early in the season, but it was that or Cottonwood Pumpkin Spiced Ale and it's a bit early in the day for that - I look back on the Summer in the South and the think of all I'll miss till next year.  Then I am warmed by the spice and excited about football, both college and pro, and the leaves that have already begun to litter my yard.

I'm ready to put away the towels and floats.  I am hoping for a few more fresh vegetables from my summer garden and maybe one pepper to magically appear on my small plant this year, but I'll pack my beach bag away and go buy those skinny jeans I've been putting off for so long.  I'll start planning Halloween costumes and road trips to cheer on my favorite team.  We'll plan a camping trip before it gets too cold and bonfires in the backyard.    But today, on the last unofficial day of Summer, I'll sip my Pumpkin Spiced Latte and reminisce about those dog days of Summer.

Fire Pit
I would love this fire pit!

Some say Spring is the season of new beginning, but to me, Fall is when life fires back up.
